One of the few large hotels in the Bideford area. The rooms are still dated and need improvement. The hotel bar, lobby and dining rooms have always looked fairly grand, but this is where ends. The Durrant needs to focus on the other parts of the hotel rather than just the entrance which has been the case here for years.
This is the third year that we have stayed st the hotel for a Masonic ladies weekend and Ball. The staff are hardworking and very helpful. The neal was lovely and served very efficiently. Nothing was too much trouble. There are however areas where standards have dropped. The complementary beverages were not replenished in our room and I was not impressed to read a card that said I could buy extra from reception when I got back to my room at 11 pm especially as reception was closed. . We had used 2 teabags and the 2 tiny single biscuits and found only 1 as a replacement and no replacement teabags. . We had taken a drink to our room on Friday evening but the glasses were left dirty in the room on Saturday. We left the Saturday evening function to sit in the bar where it was quieter away from the live music. Very surprised when the waitress in the bar announced that she was about to close it at 10.55pm as the live music wasnt finishing until 11.30. In every other hotel we have stayed in the bar has stayed open while residents wanted to buy drinks. There were at least a dozen resident guests in the bar at this point. There were approaching 200 guests for our weekend so I am a little concerned at the drop in standards and attention to detail.

Review for the restaurant (not staying in hotel). I opted for the roast of the day which was 9.50 and included a small desert. The veg were good but we were at first disappointed by the tiny amount of meat. But afterwards we were happy there was so little because it tasted like it had been kept on a hot plate for about 5 hours. The restaurant used to be better!
