Loads of choice. staff very friendly Tracy had excellent customer skills
Helpful and informative manager and the first one from many MW visits to branches across Devon and Cornwall to explain the difference between waterproof boots and boots that really keep the water out. I've had about six pairs of MW walking boots. They are never the same construction or quality of my old Scarpa boots but fine for fair weather coastal path walking where the lighter weight is an advantage. I asked why, after a recent walk in very heavy rain on metalled surfaces, not tramping through mud or bog, you could wring the water out of them in spite of them being treated with MW's own protective spray. The answer is there are degrees of waterproofing graded between 2000mm to 5000mm topping out at 10000mm water being run on them over 24 hours. If it passes the 2000mm mark they can be called waterproof and does not therefore have to mean they will keep the water out in more demanding situations. My definition, as I explained, is that waterproof means that when I get back from a walk in the hills that could include slush, snow, boggy conditions and crossing a stream my feet are still dry. So, next time you but a pair of boots here and I suspect a lot of other places that may use that same standard, make sure you are clear about the conditions the boots have to cope with and what you mean by waterproof.Otherwise a decent range of mid range outdoor gear sensibly priced and good service. I also bought a featherweight down jacket to roll up in the rucksack just to let you know the boot explanation did not put me off everything, not even the boots though my next pair will be traditional leather with old school beeswax melted into all the seams. Worked well on the Scarpas.
Good. I bought a new winter coat in the sale which made it good value for money.
Standard Mountain Wearhouse outlet. Staff fairly on the ball about their products but we're not very knowledgeable at a more technical level. When asked the difference between GoreTex and E-vent there was a lot of ummm's. However they were friendly and helpful within their limitations.
Excellent range of clothing and out door bits. Love it.
