We would like to recommend The pig on the hill to anyone who would like a great dining experience in North Devon We just dropped in for a Sunday lunch as we were visiting in Appledore, although they were busy we were were found a table without any fuss at all... the service was superb, attentive and friendly. The food was first rate, well presented with wonderful flavours, obviously cooked by a chef that has first rate culinary skill and care for his produce. The decor has been thoughtfully done with a soft, modern vibrant palette and an eye for detail. All in all a wonderful experience, at a superbly run premises and we will be back
Great atmospher, hard working staff. I had a lovely lamb shank which was beautifully cooked. Very attentive polish manager, looked after our needs perfectly.
My girlfriend took me here for my birthday meal. Staff are a credit to this business, very fine young men and women. As for the food....at first me and my girlfriend were only expecting normal pub food. But what came out blew us away, I considered it a cross between fine dining and comfort food. Outstanding quality for the price you pay, would have expected to pay more for that standard of food. We were also impressed with how efficiently the place operated while maintaining such a high standard of service and food. We would highly recommend pig on the hill.
We went to the "Pig" with our daughter and her partner and we weren't disappointed. Great food and the waiting staff were friendly and very welcoming. Not a huge menu, which was ideal as you can sometimes just have too many choices.A good selection of local ingredients and 3 of us ordered pigs cheeks, tasty and tender! We then got a bit carried away and ordered 2 desserts and the cheese board between 2 of us and it was all very nice. Left feeling contented if not a little heavier!
Before reading this please have a look at the snide response from the owners that they managed to get round to posting after a couple of years. I can only assume that they have spent the time moving the car park that the accommodation was located on when we went and silly things like putting locks on bathroom doors. Please note that nothing in their reply disputes the accuracy of my review and think to yourself "do I want to give money to this person?"Cannot recommend the accommodation that they have recently opened. There is far better, for less money, in the area. The lodges are on the pub car park, under equipped (every other place we have stayed in locally has had a freezer and a washing machine. I know this sounds picky but if you intend to go to the beach you have to either take tons of clothes or wear things covered in sand because you can't wash them) and unfinished. You couldn't even shut the bathroom door properly because half the lock hadn't been fitted. The bathroom's straight opposite the front door so the pub goers get a good look. There is decking behind the lodge which you can't use in the rain because there's no cover. The same goes for the hot tub with the added bonus of sun burn if you get a nice day.
